PERCEIVED IMPACT
Millions of Pinterest users will benefit from a feature that encourages casual interest through low-effort engagement.
"Sometimes I don't want to create a board, but I want it on my feed"
This independent project explores a new way of discovering pins. I chose to explore this case study because my friends and I frequently struggle to view specific content on Pinterest without having to save, like, or organize pins into a board first. This friction sparked my curiosity: how might the platform better support lightweight exploration without commitment?
How might we introduce low-effort pin discovery into current Pinterest flows without any board or pin maintenance?
Currently, Pinterest users discover pins on three pages.

What if users were able to follow certain topics like
how users are able to follow hashtags on Instagram?
Integrating New Feature 'Topics' Into Existing Flows
Testing
5 thinkaloud revealed two critical insights that highlight opportunities for improvement in the flows:
#1
Users expressed a desire to view and filter pins within each topic based on what is trending or new
#2
Users suggested using the word 'Interests' instead of 'Topic' to better align with Pinterest's branding and overall app experience.

Who might use this Feature?

How This New Feature Adds Distinct Value?
The proposed Topic Feature is at the intersection of the 'Boards' and 'Feed' feature, functioning as a feed for a specific idea and generating content on inputed topic names rather than pins.
